A Student's Life in Oita and Nagasaki

Comments or Questions
I love how your hometown is surrounded by nature. How close have you gotten to a monkey? Are they nice? Are they brave or shy? I think the view you get from your dormitory window is so beautiful. It must be really stress-relieving to look at all that green after long hours of study. Do you like heights?
- Vi Vo
Oita and Nagasaki look like awesome places. Everything looks so open and peaceful. Are the monkeys friendly?
- Brian

Dear Vi Vo and Brian,
Thank you very much for your comments and questions!! I have seen a lot of monkeys many times in the zoo of monkeys in my hometown Oita. The zoo is so famous as a sightseeing place that people can see monkeys approaching. I think that they are so nice, especially baby monkeys are very cute!! The monkeys get very close to you and may even touch you, although that didn't happen to me. I have seen the monkeys fighting. I think that they are brave. In winter, I have seen the monkeys soaking in a hot spring because a hot spring is prepared for monkeys in winter. Next, I don't like heights though I like seeing scenes from heights. Though I live in the eighth floor in the dormitory now, the scene from my room is so beautiful. I enjoy the scene on weekends. So I can rest myself on weekends if I don't go out. What do you usually do on weekends?
Keiko

Hello Keiko,
The monkeys actually go in the hot spings? That is so adorable. I would love to go to Japan and see them someday. On the weekends I prefer to go somewhere with lots of nature like the mountains or beaches but because I live in Santa Clara which is more of an urban city, I end up going to the malls every weekend. There are 4 really big malls near where I live so there is always something new to buy. It gets really addicting. What are some of your hobbies?
- Vi Vo

Since I cannot drive a car yet, I usually ride my bicycle and meet with friends at a park or friend's house. Santa Clara is a pretty safe area, so it's good to spend time outside. What are some places you like to spend time at?
-Brian

Dear Vi Vo and Brian,
I cannot drive a car yet, too. I would like to get a driver's license as soon as possible because most of my friends have driver's licenses. My hobbies are listening to music, talking with my friends, going shopping, cooking and so on. I like to go shopping. So I go shopping with my friends or alone if I have free time. Especially, I often go shopping with my friends in my hometown Oita because there are a lot of shops that I know well. I also like going to cafes and Karaoke with my friends since I like talking with my friends and listening to music and singing songs very much. Those are so fun for me! I always look forward to going back to my hometown and seeing my friends. I am going to see some of my friends in this winter vacation. In Nagasaki, I am always busy with the various kinds of assignments and studies and I can seldom go out on weekends because I want to be an English teacher in a junior high school or a high school in my hometown in the future. I also want to go to foreign countries, for example, USA, UK, Canada, Australia and I want to speak English fluently. What are your dreams?
-Keiko

I want to speak Japanese fluently, and go to various foreign countries including Japan of course. What do you like shopping for? Clothes, jewelery, purses or home decorations and furniture? What is your favorite shop near where you are? I love to Karaoke too but in Santa Clara all the karaoke places have only the really old songs so it's no fun to go there. What kind of music do you listen to? Which artists?
- Vi Vo

Dear Vi Vo,
I like shopping for clothes mainly. In this summer, I bought a lot of clothes in some shops in my hometown. Especially, my favorite shop is 'Honeys'. The shop has a lot of cheap and popular clothes. I often go there during long holidays. I will go there in this winter vacation. I bought some fashionable jackets and coats in a shop in Nagasaki recently. I like them. These are useful because it is cold in this winter. And I like to go to goods shops since I like 'Hello Kitty'. Do you know 'Hello Kitty'? It is a pretty cat character. Especially, I like to see the goods limited in each season. In Karaoke in Japan, we are able to sing various songs. I like J-pop music very much. My favorite artists are 'Every Little Thing', 'EXILE', 'Dreams Come True', 'AI', and so on. They are the pop groups except 'AI'. Have you ever heard the names or listened to their songs? If you have the opportunity to listen to Japanese songs, please try to listen to their songs. I always listen to a lot of songs whenever I feel tired and want to be fine, and I have time to listen to them. Which artists do you like? And which songs do you like? Maybe if you are coming to Nagasaki, you can tell me in person. I wish you and Brian Happy Holiday!!
